These are the works of the little kids who studies at the school that we painted during our NSTP fieldwork in Bataan. And yes, their works are really pretty! :)
I just feel so blessed to be where I am now. Considering what these kids have (seeing their school and houses), I can say that I have more than enough. It’s just a wonderful experience painting the school for them (yep, even though we painted a small area only). I know that their parents are mostly farmers and that the kids are their parent’s assets and investments. I just hope they would not waste the opportunity given to them.
I remember our encounter with Aling Bebeng. After the painting of the school, our instructor asked us interview some people in the community about their ‘resources’ or yaman. Lucky for us, Aling Bebeng is the pioneer in the neighborhood. I was awed when she shared that her father literally converted the vast land into a rice field! That was like tons of hard work! And I couldn’t do that. She shared with us her story of sweet success.
Her house was simple. It was concrete, had no painted walls, had few furnitures in it.. But I could see in her, she is happy. While listening to her story I just felt so guilty. Guilty in a sense that I had more than enough already, and I still wanted those expensive stuffs not realizing that a lot of people couldn’t afford them. I just felt the need to remain simple. And to give what I have in excess to those who needs them.
I just hope everyone feels the same I do when they see other people less fortunate than them. I hope they feel that they need to help these people, even in simple ways..
